Stressful Times require Restorative Measures

Many of us are now feeling helpless with things out of our control. There’s a Pandemic, the world markets are crashing, travel restrictions, self-isolation……it’s all too much!

Well, here are some things that you can do that are in your control and may help you cope with our long journey ahead. They are things we already know we should be doing but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to have a little reminder :-)

You are not alone!

Whether you find yourself in physical isolation or feeling alone and overwhelmed, Reach out! There is someone (family, friends, neighbour, coach, online groups, colleagues, doctor etc.) out there for you, only a phone call or a keystroke away. We are all here for you and know that what ever you are going through there are others that can relate.

Exercise

Whether it’s pacing the house or a brisk walk outdoors, activity will reduce your risk of depression and anxiety and help you sleep better.

Meditation

Studies found that meditation can lower blood pressure, cholesterol and the risk of heart disease and stroke, can help relieve stress, depression, insomnia, sleeplessness, anxiety and worry, and can increase productivity, learning, happiness, well-being and inner peace.

Yoga

All the same benefits of meditation plus adds flexibility, reduces muscle tension, strain, and inflammation, sharpens attention and concentration, and calms and centers the nervous system

Eat Well

I am pretty sure we all know that eating healthy is good for our physical health and now new research finds that your food choices may also affect our mood and mental health. This is sometimes called the “food-mood connection”, so eat and be happy!

Above all else: Stay Busy!

If you find yourself in isolation or at home more because we need to distance ourselves from others for safety, don’t sit there and dwell on all that is negative is the world. Get busy!

Besides trying the suggestions above, what a great opportunity to try something new! How about taking an online course on something you have been curious about? Learn something creative like soap-making, woodworking or just do a good old-fashioned puzzle! You can even have the new materials for your new hobby delivered to your doorstep without having to make contact.

I hope this helps you on your journey.

Keep safe, try to stay healthy and take of each other!
